Health data

The Health Data Laboratory is developing an integrated approach that brings together the generation of scientific knowledge, the use of clinical data and the transformation of healthcare practices. Drawing on implementation science, The laboratory develops methods and tools to collect, structure and utilise clinical data derived from routine assessments and standardised systems by drawing upon implementation science.

Particular attention is paid to ensuring that professionals and organisations take ownership of the data. The laboratory supports their ability to interpret and utilise this information to guide decision-making, support continuous improvement initiatives and strengthen the development of learning organisations. This approach prioritises co-creation with practice settings and the use of data as a catalyst for reflection, feedback and the evolution of practices to drive meaningful change.

A national focus

The laboratory’s activities contribute to public health in Switzerland and are embedded in international collaborations on clinical data standards and healthcare system transformation.

In line with national priorities regarding quality of care and digital health, the laboratory utilises health data, medical quality indicators (MQIs) and internationally recognised standards (interRAI) to support the analysis, management and improvement of practices. Through interdisciplinary projects, The Health Data Laboratory develops approaches tailored to the needs of clinical practice by means of interdiscplinary projects.

It also participates in national and international consortia bringing together academic institutions, healthcare organisations and technology partners.

This national and international scope ensures the scientific relevance, transferability and sustainability of the approaches developed, whilst strengthening synergies between research, clinical practice and health policy.
