Mental health and psychiatry

The psychological recovery paradigm forms the central theme running through all the research, collaborations and commitments of the teaching and research laboratory for mental health and psychiatry (LER SMP). This approach recognises the agency of those affected and values their experiential knowledge. Their life journeys and quality of life are therefore central concerns in mental health practice.

The LER SMP supports effective psychosocial interventions but also focuses on the conditions required to promote prevention, access to and , continuity of care and psychological recovery, its work draws on evidence while ensuring that these are adapted to the realities and needs of local contexts.

The LER SMP promotes holistic nursing care in mental health and psychiatry and contributes to the development of care centred on the individual, their loved ones, their socio-professional network and their social environment.

The laboratory’s work reflects a strong commitment to being grounded in practice and transforming practices. It is carried out at the intersection of several areas of expertise and fosters dynamic links between clinical practice, peer support, research, teaching and civil society.

The various projects focus on the development and evaluation of approaches aimed at promoting the prevention of mental health disorders, access to care, continuity of care pathways and the involvement of those affected in decisions relating to their mental health.

Particular attention is paid to all stakeholders: those affected, their loved ones, professionals and organisations, as well as the relational dynamics that develop between them.

The laboratory’s work also takes into account transcultural issues, in order to better reflect the diversity of life experiences, cultural contexts and health experiences.
